MonoGRAF Edit Drawing

Edit of a drawing means changing the determined parameters of graphics entities (points, radiuses, lengths, angles), changing their attributes (color, linetypes, level of detail) or connecting them to other entities (lines, arcs) in appropriate fashion. The edit menu includes the following functions:

Edit drawing submenu

Delete objects

The "delete" function deletes selected objects. You may select the object(s) to be deleted by any of the object selection options. When you confirm your choice in reply to the object selection prompts, the selected objects are permanently removed from the drawing and the screen. You may "un-delete" the deleted objects by invoking the "undo" option of the "oops" control menu function. If no graphic entity has been selected, no action is performed. The following message is displayed: "Nothing was selected"

Erase part of entities

The "erase part" function erases part(s) of a selected basic drawing entity (line, arc or circle). You are prompted to select an object. After you confirm the selection, you are prompted to specify the erased part.

PROMPTS:
  • Enter first break point
  • Enter second break point
If both specified points are within the ends of the line or arc, the line/arc is split into two lines/arcs. You must bear in mind that if either point is at one end of the line/arc, or if the second point is beyond one end of the line/arc, that end is cut off. If you have selected a circle you are prompted to specify which of the two possible parts will remain after the specification of the break points:

"Select remaining arc"

On this prompt, you have to select a point on the arc you wish to keep. In this case the circle is transformed into an arc. All types of partial erase are shown in the following figure.

If no graphic entity has been selected, no action is performed. The following message is displayed:

"Nothing was selected"

If the selected graphic entity is not a line, a circle, or an arc, no editing takes place. The following message appears on the screen:

"Function not applicable to selected object"

If you specify a pair of coinciding break points, no editing takes place either, and the following message is displayed:

"Identic points"

Change point

The "change point" function changes the position of a point common to one or more drawing entities. The point common to one or more entities is specified when you are prompted:

"Select/enter first point"

Before that prompt, the point selection option is automatically set to "entity end point" and is automatically reset after its selection. You specify the new position of the selected point when you are prompted:

"Select/enter second point"

If the selected set of graphic entities contains an arc, whose end point changes, the center of this arc is recomputed. It is entirely possible for the arc to become undefined. In such a case, the following message is displayed: "Arc not defined" and no changes are applied to the original arc. If the points specified coincide, the following message appears on the screen: "Identical points" and the function is not performed.

Change entity

The "change entity" function edits an existing basic drawing entity. This function is not applicable to the composite drawing entities - groups and shapes. When you invoke the function, you are prompted to select an object. After you confirm the selection you may edit the selected entity:
  • line - one of its end points may be changed. You are prompted to select the existing end point and its new position. Before the first prompt, the point selection option is automatically set to "entity endpoint" and is automatically reset after its selection;

  • circle - the circle radius may be changed. You are prompted to enter the new radius. It can be entered as a numeric value or specified as the distance between two points;

  • arc - one of its end points may be changed. You are prompted to select the existing end point and its new position. Before the first prompt, the point selection option is automatically set to "entity endpoint" and is automatically reset after its selection;

  • text - the text itself and one of its endpoints may be changed. If the two new text endpoints coincide, MonoGRAF changes the text only. Moreover, you may change the text font and height by selecting the "params" function from the control menu;

  • hatch - the hatch type, angle, the distance between the hatch lines and hatched contour may be changed.

    A contour is specified as a set of graphic primitives. If the selected primitives take part in the contour, they are excluded from the new contour. Conversely, if they do not take part in the contour they are associated with it. Naturally, parts of the contour of the old hatching which are not associated with the new contour, remain as a contour of the new hatching.

    On completion of the dialog, the old hatching is erased and the new one is drawn on the screen. Should the changed contour become open, no hatching is drawn and the following message is displayed:
    "No closed contour"
